Hot Springs / Magic Springs

The next day was a long boring day driving from Cookeville, TN to Hot Springs, Arkansas, punctuated by an unscheduled trip to Darrel Waltrip Volvo by a Check Engine Light. Turned out to be nothing that needed to be fixed now, so we were on our way in about an hour. Can't say enough nice things about that dealership - they were able to get to us right away even though we had no appointment, and they were extremely friendly and helpful. Got to drive a little on the Natchez Trace Parkway, very nice. Overall it was probably our worst travelling day - lots of miles, and nothing to do along the way. We arrived in Hot Springs, Arkansas around 11.

Spent the next morning checking out Hot Springs National Park, which is essentially a section of downtown that consisted of old bathhouses fed by the natural hot springs. Interesting, if only for a brief time.

A quick drive over to Magic Springs Theme Park got us there for park opening. Overall not a very good park. Overpriced admission for its size, food was bad and really expensive (even by theme park standards), and the layout was really strange. The park seems to be layed out like a horseshoe, so when you walk to the end, you have to turn around and walk back the way you came. Their water park had nothing for kids his age, and the water was ice cold.

Knowing we wanted to get to Bell's in Tulsa, Oklahoma before the close at 10 we didn't spend a lot of time at Magic Springs.
